Paintings
When I first started painting abstracts, my approach to color was to pursue sharp contrasts and multiple colors. Because my technical skills and knowledge of relationships were minimal, I often produced grey, gloppy messes. Along the way I became interested in artists like Richard Diebenkorn (and in particular, his Ocean Park series), where the beauty of the work often comes from subtle gradations of color laid one upon the other. I also started to explore Color Field works, particularly those of Mark Rothko, and works involving geometry and multiple perspectives. Below is a representative sample of my work in 2022 and 2023.
